What this blog does

... and who it's for.

This blog is for the non-geek. For ordinary Joes and Joannas like you and me.

We aren't into all that techie stuff. We've just heard that virtual reality is cool and want to try it out. You've heard you can do VR on a smartphone. You've got one of those and your dying to use it.

If you're anything like me,you just want to put your phone into a headset and have a go.

If you have an Android smartphone and you're curious about VR, this blog is for you.

It's not for the techno-wizards or the geekie kids. It's not for the smart aleks or the kids in the computer club.

It's VR for the rest of us.

Sorry, Android only
Why only Android? I could say that the VR scene is more active on the Android platform. Or that Google Cardboard only works on Android. But the truth is I have an Android phone. I do not have an IPhone. I can only realistically write about Android stuff. Sorry, IPhoners!

Goal
My goal in this blog is to point you in the right direction. To let you know how to 'do VR' without getting into a lot of expense or technicalities.

This blog will tell you how to get hold of a cheap headset. How to get hold of an even cheaper headset. I won't be discussing the expensive headsets like Oculus Rift - if you want one of those, you're too geeky for me.

It will tell you how to find free and cheap apps to run on your headset, including:

Demos: There are lots of great demos to show off how beautiful and immersive VR can be. From roller-coasters to spaceships. From walks through a Tuscan villa to rides through a Jurassic safari park. From trips in space to dives in a coral reef.

Games: There are a lot of games and more coming out every day. Some are just right for kids with cute teddy bears or jumping frogs. Others are scary and violent and involve some uzi-on-zombie action. Some are really good and I'll tell you about them. Some are a waste of time. Most are free. Some cost a pound or two. I'll let you know which are worth downloading and which are worth paying for. And which ones to avoid.

Video: I'll show you how to watch movies and video on your headset. Imagine watching films on a screen as big as the wall of your lounge. Watch YouTube on your headset. Watch TV programmes in bed without disturbing your other half. Never sleep again.

Review and Rants
I'll be posting reviews: in depth reviews and short snapshot reviews as well as video reviews and gameplay videos.

I'll also have opinion pieces and rants. I'll report any interesting news. And generally anything I think you might find interesting.

I hope you enjoy it.
